As long as you are a student, exams will always come. But you can decide by your actions if you want to pass the exams or not. The pressure to perform may be there but it is the way that students approach an exams that makes it tedious and not the exams itself. Regardless of your study method, there are things you should not do before exams.

DO NOT LEAVE EVERYTHING FOR THE LAST MINUTES

Most of the time, students know when exams period is close but the problem is not planning ahead. Do not make the mistake of leaving everything until the last minute. Always take sometime to plan your entire syllabus and create a routine to fit the topics. When the exams come, you will realize that you are well prepared and do not have to rush things at the last moment.

DO NOT DEPEND ON FRIENDS

Some students study some topics and avoid the difficult ones hoping to sit with their friends in the exams hall. It is better to focus on studying the difficult topics and understand it than depend on friends, especially when you don’t know what the sitting arrangements will be like. When you depend on friends, you are making the mistake of setting up yourself for failure. Read everything you can and you won’t be stranded in the exams hall. It is better to be over prepared than under prepared.

DO NOT TRY A NEW BOOK OR A NEW TOPIC AT THE LAST MINUTE

If you are a student who likes reading different books or topics, it is a good thing but do not add a new book or topic to yourself at the last minute. Getting a new material to read for a paper you are having in an hour’s time might clog your brain and you may not assimilate it on time. You may go blank during the exams. It is better to invest your time revising your regular textbooks and topics than consume something new in the last minute.

DO NOT PROCRASTINATE

It is said that procrastination is the thief of time. Procrastination is also one of the root causes of failure in exams. If you have been procrastinating your study time, know that failure might not be far from you if you do not stop it. The fact that you are not studying does not stop the exams time from drawing closer. Procrastinating studying leads to panic and anxiety before exams, and you might want to wake up and read everything at once,but you might find out you won’t be able to assimilate much. Postponing your study time makes you go into the exams hall with your heart in your mouth.

DO NOT COMPETE WITH OTHERS AT THEIR PACE

People’s brain are different. Try not to compete with your colleagues on who finished a particular handout and in how many hours. Read at your own pace, your way of studying is unique and your decisions should be based on your abilities. You can move away from your colPHLPleagues if you find out they are reading based on competition. This is because you might get discouraged. Studying is not all about who finished first but who understands the content and can express it well. Exams are never a race.

DO NOT LOG ONTO SOCIAL MEDIA

Some students are addicted to social media and prior to their exams, they can still be seen chatting. Try to reduce the time spent on social media when it’s close to your exams period and then totally go off social media. This will help you focus on reading to pass. Remember after exams, you can even sleep on social media. Remind yourself that there is Time for everything. Social media is a distraction during exams period and the key to failing woefully.

DO NOT EXTEND YOUR BREAK

While preparing for your exams, it is always good to have breaks in between your study time, but make sure you do not extend your break period. A five minute break should not be extended to fifteen minutes. You will lose the study flow and getting back might be difficult. Discipline yourself by sticking to your break timing.

DO NOT STUDY FOR HOURS WITHOUT SLEEPING

While preparing for exams, do not make the mistake of studying long hours without sleeping. The mind works overtime during the exams and the result is you will feel more tired. If you start denying yourself the required hours of sleep,your body might not be able to withstand the strain.

DO NOT SCROLL YOUR PHONE OR PLAY A GAME DURING BREAK

While observing your break, try not to log into social media or play a game. When you do this, your mind and is continuing to work when it should be resting. You can take a walk or listen to soft music because these do not involve analysis or reasoning by your brain.

DO NOT OVERFEED

Avoid eating unhealthy food or eating recklessly before exams. You cannot afford to fall sick at this time. Healthy diet must be followed and you must eat at proper times.

DO NOT FORGET IMPORTANT ITEMS

Try not to be so immersed in your studies that you forget to carry along important items for the exams because this might destabilize you. Your clearance card or receipt is one important item that, if you forget, you might be denied access into the exams hall. Carry more than one pen, and every other necessary thing. It is better to keep all the important things and documents packed beforehand so that you can simply pick them up before leaving.

Always remember that if you really have the determination to achieve something, you will do it no matter what.
